Environment

At Björn Borg, we train to live, and we live to inspire people to become the best version of themselves. Everything we do, we do with passion and a winning attitude. We do our best to bring amazing products to this world, in the form of clothes, shoes and accessories in carefully selected materials and with high quality that ensures they last a long time.

We work hard to contribute to change by taking action to decrease our carbon emissions. Our most important sustainability goal is to decrease our carbon footprint by 50% in absolute numbers by 2030 from a 2020 base year.

This means a lot of work but putting products into this world leaves a negative impact on our planet. That’s a fact. We need to find new solutions to contribute to a better environment.

Our whole value chain is involved on this journey and all employees have a functional “green” goal every year to be involved and make an impact. It can be anything from work-related sustainability goals, to taking the bicycle to work instead of the car, or finding different ways to reduce one's own emissions in everyday life.

Some focus areas that we are currently working towards:

  • 100% more sustainably sourced products, which means that at least 70% of its weight must be in a more sustainably sourced material or that it supports the Better Cotton initiative. Read more about the definition here.

  • 100% more sustainably sourced material, i.e. clothing made from 100% material with less environmental impact, or that it supports the Better Cotton initiative Read more about the definition here.

  • 100% more sustainably sourced and easily recyclable materials/constructions used for packaging.

Chemicals

We follow the European Union’s chemical regulations REACH and enforce a ban for so-called Substances of Very High Concern, a type of grey-zone list over substances that are permitted by law but suspected of being harmful.

Environment

Our total emissions 2023

Our own production accounts for 85% of our total emissions. Transport accounts for 2%. It is clear where our biggest footprint is. Therefore, we put a lot of effort into finding better materials, better production techniques and better transport solutions for our products.

Did you know that we NEVER schedule air transport when we bring home finished production from the factory? If a delivery is delayed, we always try to find alternative solutions. All air transport must be approved by our management team.

Environment

Water

Traditional clothing production uses a lot of water, especially for dyeing yarns, threads and fabrics. We are constantly looking for new materials and techniques that require less water use during production. An example of such a technique is Solution dye; a dyeing technique that does not require water and uses significantly less chemicals than normal dyeing. Digital printing is also an effective way to save both water, electricity and materials. Read more about our choices of more sustainably sourced materials and processes.
