Our preferred materials

Every material choice we make has an impact. We continuously work to increase the share of preferred materials in our collections.

By choosing these materials and use lower-impact processes in production, we reduce our use of water, energy and chemicals while maintaining the quality and performance our products are known for.

What is a preferred material?

A preferred material is a fibre or raw material that delivers consistently lower impact on the climate, nature and people compared to its conventional equivalent.

RECYCLED POLYESTER

70% of all the polyester we use is recycled, including from plastic bottles and recycled ocean plastic via Repreve® Our Ocean™. This reduces the need for new fossil-based raw materials.

You'll find recycled polyester in a large part of our workout clothes, in accessories and in our sports underwear.

ORGANIC COTTON

Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides and with better water management.

You can find organic cotton in a big selection of pyjama pants, men's underwear, women's underwear and loungewear.

RECYCLED COTTON

Recycled cotton requires no new raw material production and saves water and energy.

Organic Cotton Stretch contains from AW26 18% recycled cotton, the remaining cotton is organic. The elastic also contains 93% recycled fibers (recycled polyester and polyamide).

TENCEL™

A soft and breathable material made from wood pulp from certified forestry.

You can find TENCEL™ Lyocell in a stylish selection of women's underwear, with soft bras and matching panties.

Leather through LWG

All leather in our products comes from tanneries certified by Leather Working Group, an industry standard for responsible leather production.

Here at Björn Borg you will find comfortable and stylish leather shoes for both men and women.

Materials

Organic Cotton

Cotton is a natural fibre from cotton plants. It is a comfortable and strong fibre, breathable and water absorbent. It is naturally biodegradable.

Our organic cotton respects the cotton during the whole value chain - farming, harvesting, manufacturing, dyeing, and printing. It is grown and manufactured in a socially responsible way and dyed with fewer chemicals and water than conventional cotton

It is simply cotton grown organically to have a lower environmental impact. Our suppliers use GOTS-certified organic cotton (Global Organic Textile Standard)

Materials

Recycled Polyester

Polyester is very durable, is wrinkle and abrasion-resistant, has good colour fastness, retains its shape well, and is quick-drying.

Recycled Polyester is made from PET bottles and manufacturing waste. It uses less water, up to 50% less energy in production, and produces around 30% less Co2 compared to virgin polyester.

Recycled Polyamide

Polyamide is a synthetic fibre, traditionally derived from petroleum. It has extra durable long fibres, is wrinkle and abrasion-resistant, has good colour fastness, retains its shape well, and is quick-drying.

Recycled Polyamide is produced from recycled waste such as fishnets and plastic carpets, a way of saving natural resources and reducing what ends up in landfills.

TENCEL™ Lyocell

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres are of organic origin, have a silky-soft texture, and naturally regulate your body temperature. The fibres are derived from sustainable wood sources, produced in a closed-loop process, and certified as biodegradable.

TENCEL™ Lyocell are long-lasting strong fibres and are unfavourable for bacteria and dust mite growth. The fibres are very economical in their use of water and process solvents.

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose

LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres are derived from certifiable, renewable wood sources and produced with significantly lower fossil use and water than generic viscose. The LENZING™ ECOVERO™ branded viscose fibres are certified with the EU Ecolabel for textile products.

REPREVE® Our Ocean™

For many of our printed swim shorts we use REPREVE® Our Ocean™. To produce these fibres, plastics at high risk of entering the ocean are collected in coastal areas in developing countries or areas that lack formal waste or recycling systems. The waste is cleaned, broken down, certified by a third-party organisation, and transformed into premium fibres. A cleaner ocean for you to swim in!

High IQ® Lasting Color ECO (Avitera)

High IQ® Lasting Colour ECO uses AVITERA SE technology - a revolutionary dyestuff that saves up to 50% water, energy and CO2 emissions during the dyeing process compared to conventional dyestuffs.

Clean Color

The Clean Color technique is a water- and energy-efficient dyeing method, and a process that we are using and that is expanding.

Lower-impact processes

Innovation plays an important role in reducing our impact. By choosing more efficient dyeing, printing and manufacturing methods, we can lower resource consumption without compromising product quality.

Solution dyeing

BIONIC-FINISH® ECO is mother nature’s work reproduced on textiles and apparel to protect us from water. The technology is a non-halogenated, APEO-free, fluorine-free water repellency, resulting in a garment made for ultimate performance in tune with nature.
