Sustainability

Our products

Sustainability starts at the drawing table and a long-term commitment to making our collections last far beyond hype cycles or temporary trends. Björn Borg products are made for a marathon, not for sprints.

We choose materials and processes with a lower footprint. By constructing and designing with long-lasting quality and expression, we limit a product's footprint per use. We always think about durability, repairability, recyclability, versatility and timeless design.

Our design and product development guidelines have been aligned with our sustainability goals for years, leaving no room for purchasing non-sustainable, conventional materials.

An important key, probably the most important, to keeping global warming at bay is less consumption. Did you know that a large part of all clothing ends up in landfill? Therefore, one of our greatest tools is high quality. We can all consume less, and part of the equation is that we need access to high-quality products. Products that last.

Invest in garments that can be used for a long time, that last well, are of high quality and durable materials that can withstand frequent washing.

You can also help by washing some of your clothes less often, filling up your washing machine and hanging your clothes to dry instead of always tumbling in the machine. Sportswear and sports underwear, for example, should not be tumble-dried at all.

Underwear and workout clothes are also washed often, and in many cases also at higher temperatures than they should. Here you can check out our laundry tips for more environmentally friendly laundry. We also give you tips on how to get rid of bad smells and stains on your clothes.

We make detailed quality controls to assure that the products we offer have the longest possible life span. We check for pilling, bleeding, do wash and wear tests. A product from each season is checked several times for chemicals inline and in third-party labs to make sure that it’s safe for both people and the nature.

When you see this symbol, at least 70% of the material for the product is more sustainably sourced. We consider a material more sustainably sourced when it is made from renewable sources and/or a sustainable process and is grown and produced with methods that have a less negative impact on the Earth compared with conventional alternatives.

A large part of the materials in our clothing items are recycled. We use recycled polyester and recycled polyamide here. When it comes to cotton, we use both organic cotton and cotton that supports Better Cotton. We also work constantly to find and use methods and processes that have a smaller impact on the environment and the planet.

Here you can find detailed information about the materials that we classify as more sustainably sourced.

A product marked with this symbol indicates that 100% of the shell fabric (in the surface) is printed and/or dyed with methods that use significantly less water and/ or chemicals compared to conventional alternatives. It can be through a special technology, or simply through not dyeing the product.

Chemicals

Our products must be safe to produce and safe to wear. Good chemical management is key to ensure the safe handling of our clothing for people and the earth. We follow the European Union’s chemical regulations REACH and enforce a ban for so-called Substances of Very High Concern, a type of grey-zone list over substances that are permitted by law but suspected of being harmful.

As a player in the second most polluting industry in the world after the oil industry, we have a very special responsibility that needs to be taken seriously. People need clothes, but we can contribute to change through taking action to decrease our carbon footprint.
