CAMILA RIVAROLA

Camila Rivarola is one of just a few women in the male-dominated sport MMA. Fighting both inside and outside of the cage against people’s prejudice, she has made a name for herself in the world of martial arts.

Growing up in Stockholm in the 90s, Camila Rivarola already knew what she wanted to be. A veterinarian. Her love of animals, although met, was arguably exceeded later on by her love of sports. Maybe that’s why, at 21, her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian had faded. She now headed to the gym to try out kickboxing for the first time as a way of staying in shape. She was soon hooked.

A good physique, short temper and extreme determination took her from the beginners group to the world elite in record time. After only five years, Camila had become a Swedish champion twice and won two bronze medals in the world championships.

It was then, during a training session in Stockholm, that French former UFC superstar Cyrille Diabaté came up to her and said “you have to become an MMA fighter”. Stepping into one of the most male-dominated sports in the world, Camila joined Diabaté’s own club, Snake Team, as the only female. Fighting both inside and outside of the cage against people’s prejudice, she has made a name for herself in the world of martial arts. Camila Rivarola – the game changer.
